First, review the questions below. And then if they don't help, you can submit a Support Ticket to us.Category: Email# | Question |
1. | Why isn't MyFantasyLeague.com sending me email? Answer: Diagnosing email problems can be a very frustrating, time-consuming task, especially as more and more spammers clog the Internet with their spam. That said, hopefully this list of items to check will help make that task a bit easier.
Possible causes of you not being able to receive the email that the site is supposed to send you include:
1. The owner's email address has been entered incorrectly. To make sure that the email address that has been entered into MyFantasyLeague.com is correct, do the following:
Go to the Franchise Information report for the franchise in question.
Click on their email address.
Send them a test message.
If you get an error message back, or they never receive the message, then most likely the email address registered with MyFantasyLeague.com is incorrect. To correct the email address, just choose the Franchise Setup option for the franchise in question.
2. One (or more) franchises in your league have HTML in their franchise names. Some email servers reject emails with a "from" name that includes HTML characters like a less than sign or a greater than sign. Make sure everyone in your league is not using a less than sign or a greater than sign in their franchise name.
3. The commissioner's email address and/or another owners email address is entered incorrectly on the site. The site requires all email addresses to be valid, as it tries to make the email that it generates to be "From" your commissioner or one of your league-mates. If an invalid email address is entered, your ISP might be set up to reject an email due to it recognizing the email as coming from an invalid address.
4. You (or someone else using your email address) has incorrectly clicked on a "this is spam" link (or, filed away email from us in your spam folder) in your email program. When this happens, we get notified that email from us to you was marked as spam, and we stop sending you emails. If this was done (even accidentally) you'll need to contact your email provider to make sure that they know that all email to your account from any myfantasyleague.com email address is not spam, and should be delivered.
5. The owner has elected to not receive email from the system. This option can be changed via the Franchise Setup - Contact Info screen. Make sure the appropriate check boxes are checked for all events that the owner wants to get email for. If you had previously checked these check boxes, and now they are unchecked, and you're wondering why, please see this FAQ.
6. Any draft picks made in the "live draft" mode will not be emailed to owners. The "live draft" mode is like a chat room, where it is expected that all owners from your league will be logged on at the same time to conduct the draft, so there would be no need to have email updates of the draft while in the live draft room.
7. For auctions, the emails are sent out under the following circumstances:
When a new player goes up for auction, everyone in the league gets an email
When a player is won at auction, everyone gets an email
If you are a current high bidder in an auction, and you subsequently get out-bid, you (and only you) get an email. In other words, you will not get an email if someone out-bids another owner in an auction on the site during an auction.
8. You haven't waited long enough to receive the email message. MyFantasyLeague.com sends out email immediately once the transaction or weekly score update takes place. However, the Internet treats email more like a post office than a telephone call, and sometimes it can take several hours or more for you to receive the email in question. Experience has shown that this is especially true with AOL.
9. You (or your ISP, or your company) has "spam" filtering software installed. MyFantasyLeague.com "masks" the sender of the email message to make it seem like the message came from your league commissioner, which makes it easy to reply to the message. This masking may cause some email filtering programs to consider it spam, and thus not deliver it. Check your email program, and with your ISP, to make sure that automatic spam filtering is not done. Note to AOL users: please go under AOL keyword "Mail Controls" to be sure that your account is set up to allow the site to send you email! Also, some times companies use third party spam filtering software like "Barracuda Networks" so the email is flagged as spam, and never even gets to your company's email servers in the first place before being incorrectly flagged as spam.
10. If you have a MSN/HotMail/Windows Live account, you should add "MyFantasyLeague.com" (without the quotes) and your commissioner's email address to your HotMail Safe List. Also, you will need your "Options > Junk Email Protection > Junk Email Filter" setting must be set to "Low" (and not the default setting, which is "Enhanced"). Note that if you leave this setting to be "Enhanced", all myfantasyleague.com email will end up in your junk email folder.
11. Your email provider is having problems. We send out email within minutes of a transaction occurring. However, that is not a guarantee that you will receive it immediately. If your email provider or any intermediate email router is having problems on their end, you will not receive that email until their problems are resolved. The easiest way to determine if that's the case is - are you receiving email from other people at this same address? If not, that's a good indication that the problem might be with your email provider.
12. Have your commissioner check the "For Commissioners Email Log report - does the system report any problems with sending an email to you?
13. The final check you can do - have one of your league mates who is receiving email from the site check the "To:" line of the message that they are getting from the site to look for your email address listed. If it is listed, you can tell that the site is sending you email the same way and at the same time that it is sending your league-mates email, so you know we are sending you mail, but the issue is only with you receiving email from us. Please note, however, that the reverse is not true - just because your league-mate does not see your email address on the "To:" line of the message that the site sends to them, it does not mean that the site is not sending you email! Please see the FAQ question, Why isn't MyFantasyLeague.com sending my league-mate email? for further clarification.
14. If none of the above applies to you, and you still are not able to receive MyFantasyLeague.com email, please contact us via our online support form and we'll try to look into the problem, however, based on experience, over 99% of the time one of the above items will solve this problem for you.
One additional note on this topic: Spam has become the scourge of the Internet. Anti-spam software vendors, ISPs, and corporations are constantly tweaking the rules for what they consider spam. On occasion, legitimate email from your MyFantasyLeague.com league gets mis-identified as spam. The end result is that while the email gets sent to your email address, the spam filter blocks it, and you never receive it. This can even occur with some of the league email going to one mailbox, but not other league email going to the same mailbox. Please understand that this is completely out of our control. It would be similar to having your local mail carrier decide to NOT put a letter in your home mailbox. While the sender would have sent it, you still would not receive it. Please do not rely exclusively on the site to notify you of various situations in your league. Periodically check your league pages to ensure you are up to date regarding your league's activities.
Lastly, based on our experience, it appears that email services such as Yahoo, HotMail and AOL are far more aggressive about what they consider to be spam. If you choose to use a one of these email account, your ability to receive the email sent by the site is therefore more likely to be blocked and compromised. But, you can see this FAQ for some additional work-arounds for getting mail delivered via a third party web site.

4. | Why is MFL using the wrong email program when sending an email to my entire league or my commissioner? Answer: MyFantasyLeague.com simply acts as an address book for your league. When using the options to Email the Commissioner or Email the Entire League it will prompt your browser for the email program that is to be used to send these emails.
In Internet Explorer: Go to the Tools > Internet Options - Programs Tab. Here you can adjust the Email Program defined for your browser to send email.
In Firefox: Go to the Tools > Options - Applications Tab. Here you can adjust the Email Program defined for your browser to send email.
In Chrome: Go To Setting. Click Advanced at the Bottom. Under "Privacy and security" click Site Settings to change your Handlers so you can set your email.
If you use another browser, or the above instructions don't seem to apply to your browser version, a quick Google search should help you configure your web browser correctly for "mailto" links.

5. | Why doesn't my "Email to Entire League" or "Email to Commissioner" option work? Answer: When you use the option to Email your League or Email your Commissioner, MyFantasyLeague.com prompts your browser for the Email Program (such as Microsoft Outlook, Eudora, etc.) that you have defined to send email.
MyFantasyLeague.com acts as an Address Book to store your commissioner and owners email addresses and the Browser defined program will be the actual program used to send your email.
Your web browser will offer detailed documentation on how to configure it to use your preferred email program. This Google search might help you find instructions for how to configure your web browser properly for "mailto" links.
Also note that you will need to be logged into your MFL Account to contact a commissioner.

6. | Why isn't MyFantasyLeague.com sending my league-mate email? I'm receiving email and noticed that their address is not also listed in the "To:" line. Answer: If you don't see a given owner's name on the "To:" line of your email message from the site, don't just assume that he's not getting sent an email message. The site sends out up to two messages for common league events; one for "HTML" and another for "plain text" messages. If you've opted to receive email in one format, and the other owner has opted to receive email in the other format, each of your email addresses will not appear on the "To:" line of the other's email. Before assuming that someone is not getting an email, please check with them to be sure that they are not getting it.

7. | When sending emails to the entire league, why does my email program only send to the first address in the list? Answer: Some email programs use a comma to separate multiple email addresses, while others use a semicolon. The system tries to figure out what separator is appropriate for you, and uses the correct one most of the time. Sometimes, it guesses wrong, which causes this problem.
If you're running Microsoft Outlook, and are having this problem, you can correct this by following these instructions.
1. Go to Tools | Options
2. From the "Preferences" tab, click the first button for Email options.
3. Next, click the Advanced email options
4. In the bottom section check the option for "Allow comma as address separator"
If that doesn't help, or if you're running a program other than Outlook for email, please contact us via our online support form in reference to this email separator problem. In your support ticket, please be sure to let us know what email program you're using, and there's a chance we'll be able to tweak the system to solve this problem for you.

8. | I'm having long delays in receiving email (or, not getting any email) from MyFantasyLeague.com to my Yahoo (or AOL, or other provider) email account recently - why? Answer: Unfortunately, some email providers (Yahoo! and AOL/AIM seems to be the most guilty of this) seem to be forcing a delay in the delivery of many emails from MyFantasyLeague.com - sometimes the delay is as little as four hours after we send the emails, but in other cases, the delay is days long. We've been in touch with the folks at Yahoo and AOL to try to get this issue resolved, but currently we don't have a resolution to this problem.
In the mean time, here are a couple of things you might want to consider doing if you're experiencing this problem:
1 ) Review your Communication Email Log page - this will indicate if we've received any errors back from your email provider when trying to send you email, and also confirm for you the exact time we're sending you emails.
2 ) Check your "spam" mail folder - sometimes email from us gets incorrectly marked as "spam" by some customers, and Yahoo assumes that email from us is spam. If you find this email in your spam folder, please be sure to mark it as "not spam" so that Yahoo's email filters will understand that email from us is not spam, but instead opt-in email.
3 ) Check your "For Owners > Franchise Setup > Contact Info" page to make sure that your account is set up to send emails for events that you want to get emails for.
4 ) Contact Yahoo (or AOL, or your email provider, if it's someone other than Yahoo! or AOL), and let them know about this delay, and how it's adversely impacting you. If they hear this message from enough customers, there's a better chance they'll actually fix this problem, rather than letting it linger.
5 ) Create another email account on one of the many free email services out there that don't have this problem, like Google's Gmail. If you go this route, you won't have to abandon Yahoo! (or AOL) email for everything, all you have to do is set up a Gmail.com account only for your MyFantasyLeague.com leagues, and then configure your Gmail account to automatically forward all emails. To automatically forward emails, after setting up your Gmail account, just go to the "Settings > Forwarding and POP/IMAP" tab, and have your gmail forwarded to your Yahoo (or AOL) mail account. We've confirmed that this work-around seems to circumvent Yahoo!'s intentional delay of our emails, and will allow you to still receive MFL email to your Yahoo! email address in a more timely manner.
6 ) Sign up for text messages from us via your Franchise Setup - Wireless page.
7 ) Check your MyFantasyLeague.com league web site more frequently, instead of relying on Yahoo!'s email delivery for notifications regarding site activities.

9. | I had previously checked the checkboxes on my "Contact Info" page to receive email from the site, but now those checkboxes are un-checked - why? (Or, email addresses are automatically being removed from my league - why?) Answer: If MyFantasyLeague.com attempts to send you email, but gets rejected due to a mail server problem, we automatically stop sending subsequent emails to your email address. If you review your For Commissioners > Email Log report, you'll most likely see errors with the email address(es) where this problem is happening.
You're free to re-check the checkboxes to request email from the site again (or, adding your email address back to the site), but unless the underlying problem that you're having with your mail server gets fixed, you will most likely still not be able to receive email from MyFantasyLeague.com
Note that the single most common cause of this problem is your email provider is incorrectly marking email from us as "spam", and therefore, rejecting emails from us. If that's the case, you should contact your email provider to let them know that email from us is not spam, and should always be allowed through.

10. | How do I use the Email to Commissioner page? Answer: Choose this option to send an email to your league's commissioner. If you are logged in as a franchise owner, then the email will be sent through your computer's email program. However, if you are not currently logged in, you'll be directed to a form-email. This will help prevent unauthorized individuals from obtaining the commissioner's email address.
